VoIP forum

April 29, 2007

Voice over Internet Protocol or simply VoIP is the technology of delivering voice communications over the Internet. It is an alternative to traditional phone service with high voice quality and more affordable long distance calls.

In the US, Vonage is a leading VoIP provider offering economical and full-featured voice communication comparable to conventional telephone services. With its growing number of subscribers, it is good to know that there is an independent support venue for Vonage users, a VoIP information site where they can browse through the latest news about the products and services or read the latest press releases about the company. An important site feature is the VoIP forums where users can participate in the discussions on a lot of topics ranging from Vonage stocks and investment, product installation, feature wish list, Vonage TV commercials, to Vonage devices and phones. The site provides important data for its users which they can access in the Vonage information link which includes sign up info, features, reviews, FAQ, contact support and many more.

Are you a breakfast person? I am.

bfastBefore, I used to skip breakfast whenever I’m in a hurry for work. I thought this would help me lose weight too. Well, not anymore, after I found out that we should eat breakfast within an hour after waking up. Skipping breakfast slows down metabolism thus making you more hungry and makes you eat more on your next meal (usually lunch time). I also learned it’s better to eat smaller meals spread throughout the day than few bigger meals which tend to make you overeat. You can read more about the importance of having breakfast from this post written by my cutie sis, another breakfast person.

Anyway, my usual breakfast would be a half cup of rice and any viand (usually the leftovers from last night, hehehe) or sandwich or biscuits with hot chocolate, or muesli with milk and fruits. How about you, what’s on your table for breakfast?  :)

Any day we wish

What we ponder and what we think about sets the course of our life. Any day we wish; we can discipline ourselves to change it all. Any day we wish, we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge. Any day we wish, we can start a new activity. Any day we wish, we can start the process of life change. We can do it immediately, or next week, or next month, or next year.

We can also do nothing. We can pretend rather than perform. And if the idea of having to change ourselves makes us uncomfortable, we can remain as we are. We can choose rest over labor, entertainment over education, delusion over truth, and doubt over confidence. The choices are ours to make. But while we curse the effect, we continue to nourish the cause. As Shakespeare uniquely observed, “The fault is not in the stars, but in ourselves.” We created our circumstances by our past choices. We have both the ability and the responsibility to make better choices beginning today.

Jim Rohn

Yes, ultimately it all depends on us. We can become better persons and experience more fulfilling lives if we choose to. It all starts with believing in ourselves, and making that crucial decision to change.

So…when do we start? Any day we wish, any time we choose. That’s just about it. And most often, the best time of day to begin is right now.

Little scientist

April 28, 2007

R-vinMy nephew R-vin is a scientist wannabe. He loves watching the Discovery channel and is interested in reading things related to science. He also loves tinkering with some assembly of kits for robots, planes, cars and other stuff. I was quite amused when he even told my cutie sis that he wants to study in Harvard. Wow… I don’t know where he got that idea. I think his imagination will run wild when he discovers this site for fun educational science toys, Sciencekits.com. It is a cool online site for science enthusiasts like him with categories ranging from science kits, chemistry, robot kits, to electricity and electronics and lots more.

Blogsy hits

April 27, 2007

Surfing in the Internet never fails to bring me surprises. Funny how I browse for certain keywords in search engines and end up getting hooked on a totally different topic than what I originally searched for. One time I surfed for information about sleeping in the Centennial Terminal and got transported to a blog entry about getting delayed on a flight. I didn’t get the info I needed from that post, but the blogger was a good writer, and I can’t help but click on to the other posts. I wasn’t a blogger that time, so reading that blog was a new interest for me. I lurked that blog since then.

Investing in a home

Looking for a place to finally settle down and call it your home is not so easy. I’ve seen so many newly married couples, renting a room, an apartment unit or a small house at the start while searching for houses to buy and sometimes not finding that dream house due to lots of factors like the quality of community life, the proximity to work area, shopping, church, market, and other amenities. Some families with more budget can opt to buy their own lots in subdivisions and have their houses designed by an architect. This reminds me of somebody who bought a lot in a seaside subdivision. Conversely, a family friend is selling their house, and planning to buy a condominium unit in another city. Anyway, investing in a home is always a good option instead of house rentals which is usually a big monthly expense for something you won’t even own in the future.

Silence can be powerful

April 26, 2007

As a blogger, I can’t light a candle, wear a protest shirt or rally on the blogosphere against all forms of violence… but participating in the One Day Blog Silence is my simple act of honoring not just the VA Tech victims but ALL victims of violence in our world. It’s interesting to note that a lot of bloggers questioned and even condemned this initiative saying it is just another gimmick or it means yielding to violence by being hushed for a day. I think they just missed the point. Lorelle VanFossen posted about this initiative in her blog and there’s been an interesting thread going on. She followed it up with another post “Silence is a Memoriam, Not a Reason to Stop Blogging” to share her own personal story about the Holocaust Memorial day in Israel.

Actually, nobody is being forced to participate in this initiative. To each his own. If you think there are better ways of expressing your sympathy by blogging about a solution to violence or world peace, then by all means, do it… just don’t judge or be haughty on other people’s way of self-expression. You can write about it on your blog the whole day of April 30 if that’s your choice. It’s just a matter of what works for you.

A day of silence doesn’t mean being quiet and passive about violence. It is a time to ponder and reflect and think of how we can do our part, in our own way, wherever we are in this planet. So many blogs have been writing about the tragedy since it happened — so many ideas, views, and opinions. A day of silence doesn’t mean stifling our voices, it just means a pause in unity with others who feel so strongly about this when sometimes words are just not enough.

Island living

Ever wondered how it is to live in an island? I don’t mean a lonely isolated place but a modern day one such as the Topsail Island, a long barrier island off the coast of North Carolina, with lush forests and beautiful beaches. It is even a sanctuary for sea turtles.

Money, is it evil? Part 2

April 24, 2007

money2You can tell a person’s true character at times in his life when money stares at him in the eye.

Take for instance an incident about a lady who accidentally left her bag at a cemetery during All Soul’s day. That bag contained a large sum of money. She was so distraught and hopeless that it would still be found considering the madding crowd at the cemetery that day. (more…)

On trade shows and exhibits

Ever been to a trade show before? Well me, I can’t count the many times I’ve been to such organized events. I used to be employed in a telecoms firm, and we always have invitations from our suppliers to attend some product presentation and visit their display booths whenever they participated in big trade shows. Well, going to these events can be fun and interesting since you get to see a variety of products and services. Most companies showcase their latest innovations, so it is an educational experience as well.

Celebrate-your-Womanhood Therapy

April 23, 2007

celebrate-bookSmall and handy, its cover showing a lively female elf figure, this endearing book “Celebrate-your-Womanhood Therapy” is written by Karen Katafiasz with charming graphics by R.W. Alley. It’s one of the “elf-help” line of publications from Abbey Press where playful elves are featured as the characters in the illustrations. A light read of less than a hundred pages, it gives readers “a healthy alternative to the toxicity of sexism, as it celebrates the power, the pride, the glorious possibilities of womanhood.” This book actually inspired me to write my previous post on being a woman.

The author listed 35 gems of wisdom and encouragement, with matching lively elfin graphics, for women, and men as well, to learn and ponder on. I’m sharing here some of my faves:

“Stand proudly and exult in your womanhood.
Remember: Women hold up half the sky.”

As Seen on TV products

I bet you’re familiar with As Seen on TV products — housewares, tools, hardware, kitchen accessories, health products, exercise and fitness products, toys and games, etc. I must admit I find some of these products interesting especially those latest nifty gadgets for home, such as the Table Mate TV tray, a portable table which can be used as a TV tray, a snack table, an artist's easel or even a desk when sitting on the sofa, or the fully automatic One Touch Can Opener, or the Smart Spin Storage system, lint removers and lots more. There are some innovative electronic products featured such as digital hearing aid Sonic Earz or My Lil Reminder keychain sized voice recorder/reminder device. Most of these products are kinda costly though, plus you have to consider the delivery expenses. Well, I’ve discovered that these can also be purchased online at TV Products 4 Less, and most of the time, these are offered at lower prices than what you see on TV and delivery is faster as well. Just another buzz on online shopping!

A day of silence

April 22, 2007

One Day Blog Silence

Silence can say more than a thousand words.

This day shall unite us all about this unbelievable painful & shocking event and show some respect and love to those who lost their loved ones.

On April 30th 2007, the Blogosphere will hold a One-Day Blog Silence in honor of the victims at Virginia Tech.  More than 30 died at the US college massacre.

But it´s not only about them. Many bloggers have responded and asked about all the other victims of our world. All the people who die every day. What about them?

This day can be a symbol of support to all the victims of our world!

All you have to do is spread the word about it and post the graphic on your blog on 30th April 2007. No words and no comments. Just respect, reflect and empathy.

This blog will be silent on April 30, 2007. All that will be posted is the black graphic of this initiative. Comments will be closed.

I hope you’ll join me too. Spread the word.

Exercise and eating right

I used to think that when you exercise you shouldn’t eat right away, especially if you are on a weight loss diet. But the truth is, you have to eat within two hours after a gruelling exercise or workout to replenish energy and sustain muscle repair. This two hour period is termed as the ‘glycogen window’ where energy needs to be replaced after the body goes through a strenous physical exercise.

Money, is it evil?

April 21, 2007

money In itself it is not. It is only a form of exchange for buying, a piece of paper with some amount printed on it.

Man’s attitude towards money is what makes him bad or good, an evil person or a saint. The heart’s motives for having money and the way it is obtained is what truly counts. A generous person would always need more money to share with others, while a selfish person would always want more money to squander for his insatiable desires.

Techie buzz: PHP training

MySQL, AJAX, PHP… ugh, these are just some IT stuff that I'm so interested to know more but haven't got time to learn. Oh well, my techie bro encouraged me to take up PHP training before, he said it's just manageable but lots of things happened then and here I am, stuck to my static website knowledge.

How to blog creatively

April 20, 2007

Here are some steps to follow:

1. Prepare your blogging paraphernalia (your computer of course) — or your notebook and pen, if you do your drafts by hand.

2. Make yourself comfortable, sit properly, turn on the AC or fan if it’s getting warm.

3. Think of something relevant to blog about, some really thought provoking topic. Uhmmm… perhaps the recent news about US Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell or the VA Tech tragedy would suffice?

Welcome aboard!

I’m summer dreamin’ again! This time my mind takes me to the vast fascinating ocean and I imagine myself floating in it, onboard a big ship on a cruise vacation that is. Being on a cruise is just like being on a floating resort, aside from getting fresh sea air, basking in the sun, lounging on a chair or leaning over the railings and taking in the view of the sea, there are lots of fun on-board a cruise ship.
